The American Girl Dolls are 18 inch dolls with 18″ doll clothes and numerous accessories that are based on pre-teen girls. These girls are “characters” from many periods of American history and each has a very interesting story or stories to tell.
The American Girl Dolls have become a favorite “collectible doll” for millions girls. The first American Girl Dolls were a collection of historical 18-inch dolls. The dolls also have story books and accessories. These dolls, represent 9 to 10 years, and they “live” through important American history events. They can help children understand many historical events that help make the United States as it is today.
In 1998 Mattel purchased the company and began shifting the dolls from historical dolls to more modern dolls. Although, they do occasionally add a “historical” American Girl Doll to the line. For instance, Kit Kittredge was added in 2000. In addition, Kaya (a native American Girl Doll) was added in 2002. Then in 2007 Julie was introduced along with Julie’s best friend, Ivy.
The American Girl Dolls Collection have numerous dolls available along with their “Dolls of the Year” line plus the Bitty Baby and Bitty Baby Twins.
